Paul is a native of Raleigh. After working 2 years for the State Employees Credit Union, he joined the family owned agency, Durfey-Hoover Insurance, in 1974. Over the years, he has been active in insurance education; teaching classes in insurance for the insurance associations and for Triangle Insurance Institute.
Paul is a graduate of the University of Virginia. Active in civic affairs, he is past president of the Raleigh Jaycees, the Hilltop Home for Retarded Children and the Kiwanis Club of Raleigh.

Paul Hoover IV, CPCU, CIC
Paul joined the agency in 2001 after spending two years working for the State Employees Credit Union. He is the fourth generation of his family to work in the agency and works with both commercial and personal lines of insurance.
Paul is a member of the Independent Insurance Agents of North Carolina Technical Committee and in 2010 Paul received the Academic Excellence Award from the Insurance Institute of America for having one of the top three cumulative scores in the Nation in their Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter Program.
Paul is a graduate of Furman University. He is past president of the Raleigh Jaycees and remains an active member of their Board of Directors.

Michael Bowden, CIC
Michael, a native of Raleigh and graduate of Western Carolina University, joined the agency in May of 2005. He previously worked as a claims representative with Auto Owners Insurance Company for two years.
Michael served as Vice President of the Raleigh Sports Club from 2007 to 2008. In 2009, Michael was elected Club President. He continues to be actively involved with the Club as well as other community actives.

John Bowden died in 2009. We greatly appreciate the support shown by our community
to his family and our agency. He will be missed.
John's son, Michael Bowden, is taking over John's role. Michael has been in the insurance industry since
2003 and is working with fellow Principal, Paul Hoover III, to ensure that our customers can expect the same high level of service and expertise from our agency.

Company History
Durfey Insurance Agency was founded by Cary Durfey in downtown Raleigh in 1937. Mr. Durfey formed the agency with a focus on prompt, personal and professional service to his customers. This remains the hallmark of the agency to this day and is the reason the company continues to thrive over 70 years later.
The business has been passed from father to son for four generations.

1937 - Cary Durfey founded Durfey Insurance Agency
1948 - Mr. Durfey's son-in-law, Paul Hoover II, joined the agency. The company was renamed Durfey-Hoover Insurance shortly after.
1974 - Paul Hoover III joined the agency
1986 - The Agency merged with John Bowden, principal of Bowden Insurance agency (Formed 1981). The agency is renamed Durfey-Hoover-Bowden Insurance
2001 - Paul Hoover IV joined the agency
2005 - John Bowden's son, Michael Bowden, joins the agency.
